While writing the title for this blog post I realized a month has passed since I decided to start learning about ML/AI and read the MML book. Wow time went by fast.
I wasn't able to spend time on linear algebra between Friday and Sunday as I travelled to America to participate in a CTF. However, I was still able to finish reading the content of chapter 2 in the MML book this week! Ayyyyyyyyyy 🎉🎉🎉
Started with chapter 3 this morning. It seems to be a lot about dot products, inner products, orthogonality, and vectors. I learned alot of this while I was going through Paul's math notes. However, the math notation and definitions for all the terms that the MML book is using is a bit different than the kind used in Paul's math notes and it's kind of throwing me off. I feel like I should be able to go through this chapter pretty fast though. I don't feel like there's anything I haven't learnt before from Paul's math notes in this chapter.
On another note, I was looking through this Google Doc containing supplementary materials that could be used to understand the MML book better, and it turns out the authors who wrote the MML book also had Youtube videos to go along with the book's contents. These videos cover the same material in the same way and they are so much easier to understand than reading the book. I am kind of tilted that I only found these videos now. I guess I will have an easier time understanding the book's contents from now on ;-;
I guess I am gonna try to finish reading chapter 3 by next week. I have no idea if I will finish chapter 3 by next week though. I have learned from writing these blog posts that I am pretty bad at estimating when I finish learning tasks. Hopefully I finish though. See you next week!
